E-CO2 study with McDonald’s in Germany

Following the success of E-CO2‘s on-going beef supply chain study with McDonald’s UK, we are pleased to announce that we have assisted McDonald’s Germany and their supply chain partners, OSI Food Solutions and VION Food Group in a project to investigate the environmental impact of a group of dairy farms from across Germany that produce beef for the restaurant.

The study was designed to help farmers understand more about the factors that may affect the greenhouse gasses emitted on their farm. It has given those taking part an opportunity to adjust farm management to benefit their business margins and their sustainability. The group results have also provided McDonald’s and their suppliers with some meaningful data on the carbon generated within an integral part of the supply chain.

McDonald’s Germany has set ambitious sustainability targets relating to the climate including an aim to reduce indirect (Scope 2) carbon emissions by around 90,000 tonnes per year starting in 2011.

OSI are a leading food processor and are a key supplier of processed beef to McDonald’s.

VION are a multinational food processor with sites across Germany.
